Bamboo Palm Care Guide

CHAMADOREA SEIFRIZII AKA BAMBOO PALM

While most palms can be tricky to care for… Bamboo palms are the exception! These palms make a great first palm for the beginner level plant parent. Native to Mexico and Central America, the Bamboo palm has won us over with its striking, lush habit, and its easy maintenance!

GENERAL CARE:

The bamboo palm appreciates average temperatures of 65-85. It prefers a bright location, but can adjust to lower light too. Let it dry out between waterings, and make sure it doesn’t get left in standing water! Don’t worry too much if some of the lower and inner leaves die back, this is a normal part of the home transition. Make sure to mist it regularly, and remove any dead foliage.

LIGHT:

This palm achieves its peak lushness with bright light. It can adjust to low levels of light as well, and will likely need less water in a lower light situation. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, give it some distance from harsh sun exposure.

WATER:

Keep it evenly moist during the summer! If you’re using a moisture meter, this is the 4-6 range. Scale back on water during the winter and let it dry out in between waterings. Water during the winter at a 3 on the moisture meter. Regardless of the season never let it sit in soaking wet soil!

WHEN DOES IT EAT?

Palms don’t like a buildup of salts from food in the soil so they don’t need food very often. Add a slow release food once during the summer months for a little boost. No food necessary during the winter!

DO:

-Mist regularly, preferably every morning. Every other morning is okay too. -Cut off any dead foliage from the bottom/center.
-Empty excess water from the saucer.

DON’T:

-Let it sit in standing water!
-Put it next to a radiator or central heat.

TOXICITY:

Not toxic to cats or dogs
