Dieffenbachia Plant Care Guide

At PDC, we’re fans of classics. As far as the interior plant world is concerned, the dieffenbachia is the vintage must have. While this tried and true classic makes its home in the tropics of South America, it has no problems adjusting to office or home life. With a lush leafy habit, and low maintenance needs, this houseplant sets the standard.

General care: Very low maintenance, remove withered leaves 60-85 degree temps. Do not over water.

Light:

No direct sun! Bright to moderate light is ideal for this classic. However the dieffenbachia is known for adapting just fine to lower light conditions.

Water: The dieffenbachia benefits from brief periods of dry soil, so it’s okay to hold off on the watering until the soil is half-way dry. If leaves begin to droop or yellow, more frequent watering may be needed. If using a moisture meter, keep within the 3-5 range. Careful with the watering can, this plant is prone to root rot when there's too much water.

When does it eat? Only feed during the spring and summer months. Hold off on food during the winter, and when the soil is dry.

Toxicity: Dieffenbachias are toxic to pets and humans.

Do:

-Remove withered foliage.

-Let the soil dry out between waterings.

Don’t:

-Overwater, or leave it in standing water. -Place in full
