Norfolk Pine

Norfolk Island Pine

It has pine in its name, and it may look like a pine, but this living Christmas tree look-alike is actually native to the tropical islands of the Pacific ocean! Because of its low maintenance and fairly easy care, the Norfolk Pine makes a great houseplant before, during, and after the holidays... Making it a perfect addition for the PDC plant family!

General care: Semi-low maintenance. 65-80 degrees. Occasional misting needed, as this plant enjoys added humidity! Keep away from heaters, and cold drafts.

Light: While the Norfolk Pine prefers medium to bright light. It can adapt to lower light situations. However this will cause growth to slow, and will stretch the stems and branches, giving your pine a spindly look. Medium to bright light will help your pine thrive, keeping it full and lush.

Water: Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. When you do water, be sure to empty run off from the saucer or pot cover. This plant doesn’t enjoy sitting in standing water, as this can lead to root rot. 3-5 is the ideal range if using a moisture meter.

When does it eat? Give your pine a half strength feeding once in the Spring and again during the Summer. Do not fertilize in the winter, as plant growth will naturally slow down during this time.

Toxicity: Mildly toxic to cats and dogs. Causes stomach and mouth irritation. May cause vomiting.

Do:

-Mist your Norfolk often!

-Prune as needed.

-Empty water from the saucer after watering.

Don’t:

-Leave it in standing water.
